Today's #WIFL selections include a pair of outstanding performers who will be gracing DC stages in the coming weeks. First up we have "Modern Woman" from Tennis, the Denver-based duo (and couple) who make surf-tinged dream pop. If you're a fan of bands like Wye Oak and Beach House, you'll feel at home with the lushly retro sound of Tennis. Their fourth album, Yours Conditionally, came out on Detrimental Records earlier this month.
Next up we have "Get Out" from Portland songstress Sallie Ford. On her new album, Soul Sick (Vanguard Records), Sallie retains vestiges of her rockabilly past while embracing a new riot grrl-inspired sound. This colorfully animated and puppet-filled video is emblematic of her rawer, more raucous sound, and Ford sounds a little like a less kinetic Corin Tucker in it. She'll make a stop at DC9 April 14 on her East Coast tour.
If you don't do anything else, don't even finish their review, do yourself a favor and check out their website. It's a walk down memory lane for the first generation of digital natives. You can catch Tennis at the 9:30 Club this Sunday.
