Our #ThrowbackThursdayVideo selections are live performances from a pair of albums that came out 10 years ago this week. First up is "The Well and the Lighthouse" from Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. While not released as a single from the the album, this has always been the standout track on the album to me. Based loosely on the "The Wolf and the Fox in the Well" by fabulist Jean de La Fontaine, this moral tale features Win Butler as a rollicking metamodern mashup of Elvis and a fire and brimstone preacher.
Next up is "The Magic Position", the title track from Patrick Wolf's 2007 sophomore LP. This live performance sounds much closer to the acoustic take the English-Irish singer released on his 2012 double album Sundark and Riverlight than the original single and video version. The string accompaniment always reminds me of Penguin Cafe Orchestra's "Perpetuum Mobile" and endless IBM commercials.
