Mastodon Grow Up, Flip Off, and Rock Out

Today Atlanta prog-metal band Mastodon drop their seventh studio album, Emperor of Sand, and kick off a nationwide tour with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday. The album finds the band grappling with mortality through the story of a man wandering the desert after being handed a death sentence. Inspired by battles with cancer fought by loved ones of three of the band's four members, the album despairs, exults, and unapologetically gives death the double middle finger salute.
