It's #Tubesday and we have a pair of brand spanking new videos for your viewing enjoyment. The top of the lineup is the ridiculously subtitled first single, 'Return to the Moon', from El Vy (pronounced like the plural form of Elvis), the new collaboration between The National's Matt Berninger and Brent Knopf of Ramona Falls and Menomena fame. The mash-up of these two artists results in a sound that's at once familiar and foreign. The voice is unmistakably Berninger, as is the air of dignified melancholy, but the sound is poppier than I'm used to hearing from either artist.
Next up we have 'I Want To Feel Alive', the first single Mont Royal, the forthcoming album from Ohio folk-rock quartet The Lighthouse and the Whaler. Their genre-defying sound incorporates the soaring vocals we've come to expect from West Coasters like Local Natives and Fleet Foxes with the East Coast chamber-pop sensibilities of Vampire Weekend and Bishop Allen.
The great news is that you can catch both of these artists rolling through DC in the final quarter of this year. TLATW will be at DC9 on October 5th, and El Vy play the 9:30 Club on November 11th.
