The Portland Cello Project has produced a tribute album to Elliott Smith, entitled to e.s, featuring 6 of Smith's songs and 6 original works commissioned by the band based on unfinished fragments of Smith songs. The project, or PCP as they are known colloquially, are known for their classical, cello-drive twist on pop hits, and you may remember them from a collaboration with Laura Gibson on her 'Hands in Pockets' that was an NPR Song of the Day.
OPB's State of Wonder is streaming the album in its entirety, and the program's title is an apt description of my reaction to the album. Check it out.
