Dig folky bluegrass (or bluegrassy folk) of the variety of the Avett Brothers, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Trampled by Turtles? Check out the Charlotte, North Carolina-based duo Saints & Sinners. Their music is alternately traditional and contemporary, steeped in the sounds of the Piedmont with a thoroughly modern point-of-view. Their harmonies are raggedly beautiful, sung by Ron Swanson-lookalike Perry Fowler and upright bassist Mark Baran.
They were recommended to me by an old friend who lives in the Charlotte area (she's old, not me), and they'll be gracing the stage at Hill Country BBQ for a no-cover show this Friday. Doors open at 9:30pm. In the meantime, check out their album Love & Misery.
