Today's #TBTV selection is "Some Are Lakes", the title track from the full-length debut by Canadian indie band Land of Talk. Every so often you come across a song that takes your breath away, and listening to "Some Are Lakes" was one of those experiences. Produced by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, and released on Conor Oberst's Saddle Creek Records, the album was a melange of the exquisitely crafted dream pop of Ivy and the jangly post-modernism of Built to Spill. It was one of those songs, and indeed one of those albums, that was both timeless and firmly tethered to its era. Like her longtime friend Sharon Van Etten, vocalist Elizabeth Powell manages to embody strength and vulnerability with seemingly effortless intensity.
Catch Land of Talk at Songbyrd Cafe on April 26.
